Where to stay in Malta for history and culture
Valletta, the countries capital is probably the best place to stay if you want to immerse yourself in Maltese history and culture. This walled old city, standing proudly on a peninsular is beautiful and full of shops, cafes, restaurants and historical sites.

A great option if you want to be right in the centre or old town Valletta. It’s a small boutique-style hotel with family rooms available.
On the doorstep of Valletta old town is this luxurious five-star hotel. It has great views as well as all the facilities you would expect from a top hotel.
You can’t beat the panoramic views from this central apartment. Sleeping 6, with 2 bedrooms and a sofa bed it would work for families or two couples.
Where to stay in Malta for restaurants and nightlife
The area North of central Valletta consists of several inter-twined suburbs that are full of holiday accommodation, bars and restaurants. Sliema is where most boat trips around the island leave from and you can hop on a ferry across the bay to old town Valletta. This area stretches north to St Julians. It also encompasses Balluta bay with its small sandy beach and Spinola Bay with its abundance of waterside restaurants.

This is a fantastic waterfront hotel in St Julians. We loved this hotel, the kids particularly loving the swimming pools of course!
If you prefer an apartment, these ones in Sliema offer great views as well as a swimming pool.
This excellent resort hotel in St Julians is within a stone’s throw of Balluta beach.
Where to stay in Malta for sandy beaches
There isn’t a vast supply of sandy beaches in Malta. If you love the beach, northern Malta around Mellieha and Ghadira bay are your best options. Ghadira bay probably the largest sandy beach on the island so a good choice if that is your favourite activity. It is a little further from some of the other cultural sights but you can still easily visit places on day trips.
If you are looking for an all inclusive resort this is a good option, right next to Ghadira bay.
Close to Mellieha on the west coast is this fantastic resort hotel which has it’s own private beach.
This area of Northern Malta also has lots of options for villas and apartments. This is a good choice if you like more of your own space or are travelling with a larger group.
In Mellieha with easy access to the village and beaches this place has the most amazing views.
This amazing villa is the one to go for if you want space, luxury and fantastic views.
