Hi, my name is Jude and I’m the creator of Mini Travel Tribe. For as long as I can remember I was encouraged by my parents to get out and travel the world. “Don’t settle down too young, go and see the world first”. I think my Mum may have lived to regret this when I dutifully did as I was told and took off for multiple long travelling trips throughout my 20s. The more of the world I saw, the more places that got added to my bucket list!
I did eventually “settle down” and 3 children later my husband and I are Yorkshire based in the UK. The love of travel never does go away but we currently settle for regular family holidays. These tend to be a mixture of relaxed family beach holidays and trips where we travel around and really explore the destination. We are now loving inspiring our children to explore the world. Just before her 7th birthday my eldest daughter announced that she would like to “go away somewhere exciting” for her birthday “like Australia or China”. Difficult to organise at short notice and with only a week off school, but we have promised her that we will try and make it there one day as a family.
The Mini Travel Tribe Mission
My motivation behind starting this blog was to encourage other families to not be held back by the obstacles that travelling with children can throw at you. This could be travelling to the other side of the world or just exploring more of your own back yard. Travel is very different with children and certainly has a whole new set of challenges when compared to travel pre-kids but I believe that the benefits far out weigh any of these challenges. As a parent I now love seeing all the places we go through the eyes of my children, making me appreciate destinations a totally new way. And of course for the children, getting to experience new cultures, language and activities in a way that is far more meaningful than reading it in a book or seeing it on TV.
One thing that the Coronavirus pandemic had taught all of us is to appreciate things that we have always taken for granted. This means we have started to explore more and more in our local area of Yorkshire and for the time being our more far flung adventures may be on hold but as soon as it safe to do so we will be off exploring further afield again!
Who are the Mini Travel Tribe?
I’m the chief content creator for our website. In between chasing around after three children and working part-time I love to try and fit in as many travel trips and days out as possible. I also love running, which I find is a great way to explore new places when we are away (it is also a great excuse to go out and explore on my own for a bit without children hanging off me!)
Planning holidays has always been one of Adam’s favourite past times. He can spend hours online excitedly checking flights or coming up with last minute ideas for new trips. He also loves taking photos to document our family adventures.
At 8 years old, Chloe is the eldest of the three Mini Travel Tribe children. She always has been a bundle of energy and there isn’t much that she fears. She loves trying different foods when we are away and has a particular love of feasting on seafood.
Aged 5, Martha is the ‘middle child’. She is amazingly kind and loving but also incredibly strong-willed and really knows her own mind! When we are away she is happiest splashing around in a swimming pool.
At three years old, Benjamin is the baby of the family. Although sometimes slightly smothered by his big sisters, he isn’t one to be pushed around either. He is another bundle of energy and also has one of the cheekiest grins you have ever seen. He loves being outdoors so any trip which involves getting out in the fresh air and exploring is perfect for him.
