I’ve collated a library of all our favourite online resources for travel.

Accommodation

Booking.com is probably my most used website for booking hotels. They also have an increasingly large range of apartments and holiday cottages. The more bookings you make you get discounts and I often find that booking.com is cheaper than booking directly with the hotel.

Airbnb needs no introduction. I do use this a lot- make sure you check the reviews! I have been finding recently that Airbnb tends to be a bit more expensive than some other sites.

VRBO is similar to Airbnb. It is a great site for finding apartments/ houses to rent for your travels. We have used them a lot.

Hostelworld– a great way to travel on a budget. These days most hostels are family friendly and you can book private family rooms. Hostels are generally very budget friendly and most have kitchens where you can prepare your own meals to further lower travel spending.

Transport

Rome2rio is one of my favourite websites for journey planning. It gives you options for trains, buses or taxis where available and gives you a rough idea of the costs and journey times. It will then link you through to the rail or bus company websites to get more information or book tickets.

Flights:

Skyscanner is my favourite website/ app when I’m searching for flights. In fact I think it’s so good I’ve written a whole separate blog post on it here.

Jack’s flights club is a great website to get on the mailing list for. There is a free option where they send occasional emails with bargain airfares. There is also a premium paid option where you get more/ better deals and can personalise the airports/ destinations you want the offers from.

Trains:

The man in seat 61 is the authority on all things train travel! His site covers train travel in almost any country of the world and is soooo helpful!

The trainline is a great site for booking trains in the UK and all over Europe. It can be helpful as all the information is in English and you can have bookings from multiple countries in one place.

Interrail (if you’re in Europe, including UK) and Eurrail (if you’re outside of Europe). Is a brilliant rail travel pass if you want to explore Europe by train and is free for under 12s!

Buses:

Flixbus has a huge network of affordable buses all over Europe and also in the USA.

Car Hire:

Rentalcars.com is a great website to compare rental car companies. We often hire a car on our trips in Europe.

Imoova is a great website if you want to hire a camper van cheaply. They offer very cheap hires for relocations. The company specify which cities they need the camper van moving from and to and also the time frame it needs to be done in.

Tours/ activities

Get your guide is a great site to find tours and activities in the destinations that you plan to visit. Even if you don’t end up booking a tour it might give you ideas of what to do when you are there.

Viator is another good website to find tours and activities.

Tiqets is a great site for booking tickets for popular attractions.
